Care guide

Material-by-material advice for keeping every Gartenia piece looking as good as the day it arrived.

Glazed ceramic and stoneware

  • Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately
  • Avoid abrasive sponges and bleach-based cleaners, which dull a matte glaze
  • Empty and dry vases fully before storing to prevent watermarks
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes, which can craze the glaze

Hand-blown glass

  • Hand wash in warm water with a mild detergent — never the dishwasher
  • For cloudy interiors, soak with warm water and a little white vinegar, then rinse
  • Dry and polish with a lint-free cloth to keep the surface clear

Brass

  • Dust with a dry, soft cloth; brass dislikes standing moisture
  • Remove wax by letting it cool completely, then lifting it away and wiping with warm water
  • Brass naturally warms and patinas — use a brass polish sparingly if you prefer it bright

Natural stone — travertine and marble

  • Wipe with a damp cloth; never use acidic cleaners such as vinegar or lemon
  • Use coasters under wet glassware and wipe spills quickly
  • Re-seal once a year with a natural stone sealer to protect against staining

Plaster and composite sculpture

  • Dust with a dry, soft brush
  • Do not use water or spray cleaners on unsealed plaster
  • Always lift from the base rather than the narrowest point

Faux florals and dried stems

  • Dust with a soft brush or a hairdryer set to cool
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour
  • Reshape wire-cored branches by hand rather than bending at the same point repeatedly

Candles

  • Trim the wick to 5mm before every use for a clean, even flame
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children and pets
  • Store flat, away from direct heat, to prevent warping
